Boosted86 is the world’s fastest radial car

Boosted86 Racing have a fair bit to boast about; being the fastest import radial car in the world is just one of their recent achievements. Running a Toyota 86 chassis carrying a 1FZ Landcruiser engine, the cars competes in the Pro Turbo drag class in Australia. At the Brisbane Jamboree earlier this year, the car qualified second in the Pro Turbo class with a 7.07 @ 206mph before going on to win the event. It puts out a staggering 2000hp at the engine managed by a Link G4+ Thunder. On the drag strip, all this power is in the hands of one determined woman – Nikki Hepburn. We spoke to her to find out more about her amazing car and team.

Nikki, tell us a little about your car?

Boosted86 is currently powered by a Toyota Landcruiser 1FZ engine which is assisted by a Garrett Gen 2 GTX55 turbo. It is making roughly 2000hp at the engine and we run all of this through a Mickey Thompson radial tyre.

Who’s idea was it, who has built it and when?

Myself and partner Luke had the idea to build an all-Toyota Car approx. 4 years ago. We purchased the standard 86 shell and decided on the 1fz Landcruiser motor as we didn’t want to run the typical 2jz package.

A little more about the team of people around the car?

The engine is built, tuned and wired by Justin & Michael at JW Automotive and the chassis is tuned with the assistance form Kyle at 6Boost. Luke is essentially the crew chief and I am the driver/ team cook J We also have a few other people behind the scenes who contribute to the car, mainly Phil O’Brien from Performance Wholesale

What championships / records have you won?

We have been runner up 2 years in a row at the Sydney Jamboree (2016 & 2017) in the Pro Turbo category and Winner of the Pro Turbo Category at this year’s Brisbane Jamboree. We have also won the quickest 6 cylinder award at the last 2 Kenda Tyres Drag Radial Warz Events and the car is currently the fastest import radial car in the world, as well as the fastest 60ft radial car in Australia.

What are you aims for next season?

Our aim is to compete in the entire Kenda Tyres Drag Radial Series and all Jamboree Events and bring home trophies at each. We also have some personal goals of running a low 4.20 or high teen in the 1/8th mile times and a mid to low 6 sec pass over the ¼ mile

What do you love about Link ECU? Who does the Link tuning?

Both race cars we have owned have always run the Link ECU and the Team at JW Automotive love using the product so it is a win-win situation all round

Which ECU do you use?

We currently run the Thunder ECU

How long have you been racing cars?

I have been racing for just over 5 years now, this is the 2nd car I have stepped into

What do you love about drags?

I love going fast, the adrenalin of a good race and I love the team spirit it creates at the track
