Link ECU powered cars blasted to the top spots this past weekend in the small New Zealand town of Waimate, near Timaru. The Waimate 50 is an inaugural event, massively growing in popularity year upon year. The tight street circuit being set-up throughout the town centre is certainly something unique! Playing home to drift cars, tin tops, rally cars and even motorcycles for the weekend, the 2018 edition of the event did not disappoint.

Josh Mitchell took the overall win in the Top 10 shootout in his CroweSport Subaru WRX:

Josh’s ’97 WRX Type-R Coupe is running a CroweSport 2.5L with a Garrett GT30, putting out around 400hp. It also has a KAPS R4 sequential gearbox. Powered by a #LinkECU G4+ Plug-in ECU, the car makes use of many features including oil/fuel pressure, oil temp, launch control, flat shift, wheel speed and more.

 

Andy Duffin in his triple rotor RX7 came away with some great results for his first time at competing at the event:

Congrats to Andy for finishing firstt in the rear wheel drive class street sprint, fourth quickest overall and winner of the first invitational race.

 

Andy’s GT Savanna RX3 was also in action durng the day, piolted by Tauranga’s infamous rotary tuners Green Brothers Racing:

Finally, it was good to see many of the D1NZ drift pilots back in action after the winter break. Congratulations to Troy Jenkins for taking his 2JZ powered Toyota 86 to second place on the podium, followed by Ben Wilkinson and Adam Davies. Second member of the Team Jenkins Motorsport, Ben, was in action having his first drive in the new car.

The boys certainly looked the part and put on a HUGE show for the crowd! We’re sure the roundabout skids will be a lasting hit for years to come. See you there in 2019!
