Link ECU Build of the Week #6 – Immense Motorsports EVO7

The Mitsubishi EVO 7 is an extremely versatile performance car.

From Time Attack, to Drag Racing, Hill Climbs and Circuit Racing, EVO’s are seen competing in a variety of Motorsport competitions around the world.

Pete Kearney’s EVO 7 featured here is used on the street as well as Drag racing, running low 10 second quarter mile passes.

The 2001 Evolution VII was originally purchased by Pete as a tidy street car putting out close to 400 horsepower.

That wasn’t enough for the Christchurch (New Zealand) based Owner, who then modified the car gradually over the past couple of years. The billet block 2.2l stroker engine now puts out 535 horsepower, thanks to features such as the Plazmaman intake, intercooler and clamps, Samsonas 5speed sequential gearbox, Driveshaft Shop carbon driveshaft and a Link G4+ Fury ECU.

While wanting to maintain the street look of the car, the increase in power lead to the decision to install a roll cage.

We stripped the car down put in a roll cage as we were hitting the low 10’s on the strip. We added Bride race spec seats and harnesses for safety measures, all while trying to maintain a street look” says Pete, a member of Immense Motorsport.

The Link Fury has been tuned by Jason at Specialised Auto Services in Christchurch. The car now has Onboard Wideband, Manifold EGTs, Oil temperature/pressure sensors, Water temp/pressure sensors, Wheel speed sensors, and Flexi fuel set-up. Of course the Link ECU also provides data logging for the team to review after Drag passes, providing helpful information towards improved performance.

On the cards this year include a few Pegasus Bay Drag Race meets at Mike Pero Motorsport Park and hopefully some OSCA meetings too. We suspect there is still more to come from this beast!

Thanks for choosing Link ECU, Pete. We Wish you all the best for some more great times at the race track soon.
