That White Five - EVO 5

You may have seen @ThatWhiteFive's EVO taking Instagram by storm of late.

We recently took a closer look at this Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Five GSR 1998 to find out the ins and outs of this immaculate vehicle.

The JDM IMPORT version EVO 5 is currently used as a street car, but slowly being transformed into a 'club sport' spec track car.

Starting out with some track days this year, owner David is looking forward to 'stretching its legs' on race circuits around the UK, especially with the new forged engine build. The Long term goal is to compete in Time Attack events and the vehicle is slowly receiving upgrades, such as custom intercooler pipe work by Rushworth Performance, with that End Goal in mind.

David purchased the EVO in fairly stock condition with just a remap and some coilovers. Since then, modifications have included trading in the remap for a the Link G4+ PlugIn ECU. The PlugIn ECU allows for an easy, no-fuss install with a huge amount of possibilities opened. Features set-up at the moment include Sequential fuel delivery, Knock Control, Launch Control, Boost control with switchable settings and the ability to recording data into the on-board memory. This is done using an array of Link sensors such as Temperature and Oil pressure.

The car is currently running on a de-tuned engine map, while awaiting a fresh tune following the new engine build. This has included an update to a fully forged and rebuilt 4G63T by C1-R Motorsport.

David commented: "The difference of having the G4+ (even on the old engine setup) was night and day as it transformed both the driveability in terms of power delivery and how much smoother the car was at low rpm. It drove just like my vw golf daily driver!"

The engine is spec'd to handle circa 800bhp. Current turbo estimate is mid 400's(bhp) so the long term goal sits around 500whp.

Other modifications include a 25 row oil cooler, complete AN lines / fittings supplied by HEL Performance and and uprated clutch provided by RTS Performance.

Ideally, David would also like to upgrade to a Link MXS Strada dash later this year.
